ISG's water systems services enable us to help clients dramatically improve the energy efficiency of their cooling water systems.
But the job doesn't stop with energy savings - almost every project we do also brings operating improvements, so the systems
actually work better than they did before. This is because we recognize and understand the importance of these systems to
the functioning of their plant and its processes, and we are acutely aware that all the energy savings in the world are meaningless
if the systems don't work as they're intended and production suffers.
Our stepped approach begins with surveying water systems for their current operating efficiency. We bring in a complete
package of field metering and logging equipment and gather sample operating data from the systems. The survey data includes
such logged trend data as water flows, temperatures, pressures, electric power, etc.; snapshot data like power for constant
run on / off devices such as pumps and cooling tower fans; and nameplate and specification data on the major system components.
From this information, a picture of the initial energy cost of the system is developed.
Spending this time with systems enables us to go to the next step, which is to identify promising improvements and screen
them for cost-effectiveness. ISG usually targets improvements that can be conducted with a 1 to 2 year simple payback, but
longer payback measures may be put forth when they offer large dollar impacts to the overall system operating costs.
In addition to surveying systems and identifying cost-effective improvements, ISG offers a variety of complementary services
that streamline the implementation of system improvements. These services include complete engineering support for improvement
projects, from design through specification and bid review to project installation support. Training and system documentation
can be provided so operators know how systems are supposed to work and can work their way through issues months and years
after projects are completed.
